So … I am writing from our room at the Mologne House. Brian was discharged about 2 hours ago. We are going to have dinner tonight with some of his friends and then tomorrow we leave here at 10 to head to Andrews AFB, from where we’ll be flown from … right back to Hurlburt.
Brian & I both, are so excited to get back to the kids! Brian is really looking forward to a few days of spending time with the kids, no knocks at the door or phones ringing. While at the hospital it seems there has never been more than 20 minutes of quiet. It will be so wonderful to be home.
After the weekend, Brian will have to go to Eglin and go thru all the tests & xrays and everything all over again. His Physical Therapy has been lined up and is at Hurlburt, which is only minutes away for us, it will work out really well. He’ll have 2 hours of PT 3 or 4 times a week. After a month, they will redo xrays and see he’s healed enough to go without the brace and boot on his left leg. The back brace will be on for 3-6 months.
One of the organizations that has been so generous, has been the Wounded Warrior Project. If you are looking for an organization to donate to, http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org is one great place. They gave Brian a backpack with a full change of clothes and a phone card and some other supplies in it. There are SO many organizations, a major one being the Red Cross, that make their rounds up at Walter Reed, giving things to the patients. Brian was also given some beautiful quilts made across the US by Quilts of Valor. These quilts are given only to soldiers who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Another group makes adaptive clothing, Sew Much Comfort … they’ve thought of everything!!
Ok … next time I check in, it will be from home … HOME SWEET HOME. We love you all!
